There are lots of karate schools and other martial arts offered in Boca Raton.  The Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy sets itself apart by giving customers/students EVERYTHING they pay for —

No wasted money on enrollment fees, testing fees, inflexible contracts or class limitations.

The Martial Arts is a life commitment and passion for those who own schools and teach as a full time profession.  And those are the best instructors –  they’ve made it their livelihood  and are excited about sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm.  But for students, especially kids, it is oftentimes new, a hobby or maybe a curiosity or way to get into shape.  It’s an activity — not a life direction.  And that is where the problems can occur – when life passion gets in the way of customer service, need and satisfaction.

How to get everything you pay for….

One of the many things the Martial Arts promotes is flexibility…. but most schools are incredibly inflexible when it comes to training programs.  There is a price, usually a contract of up to 3 years and a number of classes per week limitation.  You fit into their program or you don’t join.  And if you do join and can’t make specific classes offered, you pay for something you don’t use.

At BRKKA, we have several training options.  We feel that everyone should be able to get healthy and learn self defense and the martial arts if they have the desire.  We accommodate the one-time per week students, the adult who has a heavy travel schedule or a schedule that is frequently changed.  We don’t ask you to pay for something you are not participating in.  AND NO CONTRACTS.  Pay as you train, month to month.  No cancellation fees, no enrollment or reactivation fees  and no testing fees.  The more you train, the better the deal, but we offer reasonable training packages for unlimited monthly  training, private classes mixed with group classes, pay as you train options and per class options.  There is literally something for everyone.

Parents have a huge responsibility to bring their children up to be healthy, productive and independent adults. We have to guide our children, tell them difference between right and wrong, encourage them to believe in themselves, explain our expectations and why they are so important.  But the one essential element in leading your child down a  positive path is to walk down that path yourself….. setting a good example.Family Playing Game Together At Home

Kids learn by watching the adults in their lives.  When we as parents are doing the right thing, we are naturally passing along that information without saying a word.  Here are a few suggestions to help lead by example….

– Be present when you are with your children.  Today we are bombarded by technology that can distract us.  Cell phone, computers, video games – they all take our attention away from our kids or other important people in our lives.  Put them down during dinner and family time.  Show your kids that people, family and relationships are more important than gadgets.

–  Spend your free time on a variety of healthy activities.  TV is fine in limited quantity, but also diversify activities with reading, hobbies, outdoor fun, etc.  Time is valuable and you should enhance your life as much as possible.

–  Show kids how to live a healthy life.  Eat well – limit your indulgences of junk food and introduce a variety of vegetables and fruit into your family diet.  Spend time exercising each day and being active.  If they grow up doing this, it will naturally be a part of them.

–  Mean what you say and say what you mean.  Don’t make false promises or threats.  Teaching kids that being honest to your word – living with integrity – is a key element to their future successes and relationships.  Follow through with actions every time.

–  Don’t get caught up in “things”.  Happiness cannot be bought in a department store or acquired through designer labels.  True happiness comes from within – from sharing our lives with loved ones.

–  Treat others as we want to be treated.  Watch your words and attitudes.  Whether it’s other family members, friends, co-workers or complete strangers, use kindness to handle situations that arise.  Remember, kids are always watching and they hear what you are saying about others even if the subject of your comment is not present.

Striving to raise healthy, happy kids makes us better parents and better people overall.  It’s a win/win for everyone!

Time is the one thing that cannot be replaced.  Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.  Take advantage of the time you have while your kids are still kids.  Just like scheduling work or household chores, take time to plan time for your family to have fun together.  Maybe plan a monthly event – a trip to a park or the beach, game night, a cooking night where you teach your kids the basics of the kitchen and let them get creative.  From personal experience, it’s the family events that become tradition that kids look the most forward to and remember for a lifetime.

Fourth, provide your children with an enjoyable family home environment where they always feel safe. Family is a place where kids can share and create and not be judged. Unconditional love and acceptance is key in development and building a solid foundation for kids. Make home life fun and memorable. Creating memories can be done as both a family unit as well as time individually, one-on-one. It will all make a difference both short and long term and will create relationships that will be important for future successes as well as guidelines for future generations.

Healthy self-esteem comes from being successful – at least in one, or more, areas of life.  The key is finding where talents lie.  If it’s not obvious and recognized in school or a traditional sports or extracurricular program, it may be overlooked.

Encourage your child to explore individual interests. Once they are identified, support it and assist in talent development.

Take the time and effort to explore different interests – find that talent that may be hidden.  Encourage your kids to always try their best – regardless of success.  Stay involved in school assignments, homework and pay attention to what is easy and what is difficult for them.  Identify strengths and areas of challenge.  Listen and help them develop their interests.  Expose them to a variety of environments where they can learn about different cultures, arts and appreciate the importance of giving back through community service.  Another idea is once a talent or interest is identified, find a mentor program to foster that interest.

Each month we pick a topic to discuss at our karate studio.  The month of November we discuss Gratitude in observance of Thanksgiving and what that really means.  We call it “The Attitude of Gratitude.”

When I stopped to think about what Gratitude means to me personally, all I had to do was look around me.  Our dojo is something I am very proud of.  Yes, it is a job – a business we own.  But it is more than a mechanism for making money.  I watched the classes and the interaction of instructors with students and also with parents.  The Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy is a place everyone can come and feel comfortable and safe and be themselves.  There’s no judgment – instead you receive support, encouragement and understanding.  Our instructors, students and their families are among the nicest group of people I’ve ever met.  Once your enter the door, you are part of a family – a dojo family – my family.

Kids really do feel safe.  They learn the martial arts with no fear of embarrassment or being bullied.  They exercise and interact with respect to instructors, but more importantly, to one another.

Adults have fun.  And they are TOUGH.  Even our beginners are amazing with their dedication to fitness and good health.  And the support they give one another keep them coming back for more.

So to wrap this up, my gratitude is for the Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy.  It is lots of people’s “home away from home,” a place to escape, burn off the stress, have fun and learn valuable self-defense.  I’m grateful to be part of it and very proud of the role we now play in the community.

I give thanks to all of you who have helped build BRKKA to what it is today.
