Martial Arts Lessons for kids –a Good Idea?

It’s a very good idea for our kids to get and stay in functional, healthy shape. It’s a good idea to get a good coach and great training partners, as the community you’re in strengthens your own practice. It’s a good idea to learn the basic techniques of personal defense, just in case they might ever need them. It’s a good idea for our kids to learn how to create daily healthy practices and commit  to a long term training program that is safe to participate in, taught by highly skilled teachers, and that is complex and interesting enough to fight boredom.

Every good martial arts school, our’s included, offers prospective members a free trial program –so that they might test drive the school before beginning their adventure. Call or text 561-926-1846 for our free 1 week trail guest pass, good for the entire family by the way (support is good).

Boca Raton Karate & Kickboxing Academy (BRKKA) is launching a 12-week Nutrition Awareness program for our kids this summer – A SUMMER OF NUTRITION.  This program will be incorporated into our regular classes and is an educational opportunity for our students.  We will discuss different topics regarding nutrition each week and encourage students to participate in conversation, homework assignments and healthy food awareness projects.  The topics covered will include:

-The importance of water

-Fruits and vegetables

-Healthy proteins

-Carbohydrates and energy

-Choices we all have at meal/snack time

-Personal responsibility for a healthy future

-Sugar / junk food

-Expanding our list of favorite foods/experimenting with new foods

For example, the first week’s topic is about fruit and veggies.  The assignment is to list 6 fruits and 6 vegetables that you like or are willing to try.  Each of the 12 weeks, you are to try one fruit or vegetable from your list and report to the class what you tried, if you liked it, why or why not and if you are willing to try it again.  This is all in an effort to expand healthy eating habits and make kids more aware of their choices.

At the end of the 12 week program, those students who participated (conversation in class, homework and outside class assignments) will receive a special certificate and prize.   Our focus is not on weight or numbers – but instead on education for a healthy future.
